Members of the club laid on special event station GB6HS for 6th Hove Scouts to take part in the annual Jamboree On The Air. The station was set up at the Scouts' Hillside campsite near Henfield and we were blessed with a lovely sunny autumn day. In addition to the Scouts who were camping for the weekend, we had visitors from 6th Hove Cubs and Beavers, and Scouts from the 1st Hove and 5th Hove groups.

JOTA 2011

The station was very successful, contacting 14 other Scout stations in England, Scotland, Germany, Holland, Austria, Switzerland, Portugal and Denmark. Most importantly, our visitors passed greetings messages to all of them, fulfilling the main purpose of JOTA. By taking part in the event and speaking to Scouts in other countries, all of the Scouts achieved their Global Challenge badge. Ten of the keener Scouts also completed their Communicator badge by learning more about amateur radio and logging stations that they heard in addition to passing greetings messages to several stations.
